Prohibition of Building Structures over Graves in Islam

structures over graves

Not allowed to build any structures over graves in Islam. Because the dead man doesn’t need it. And the structures don’t give any advantages to the dead.

A hadith from Jabir (may Allah blesses him), he says:

“The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) forbade that the graves should be plastered (made into permanent structures), used as sitting places (for the people) or building over them” [Saheeh Muslim].

Also, this behaviour will leads us to cult the graves and leads us to worship the dead. Which is considered as shirk.

And that ever happened to the Jews and Christians. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) says:

“Let there be curse of Allah upon the Jews and the Christians for they have taken the graves of their apostles as places of worship” [Bukhari & Muslim].

Islam teaches us everything that benefit our life. Practice it well. May Allah bless your faith. Aameen!
