What is the Islamic law of men wearing a ring, especially the gold ring?
Noble Shaykh Shalih bin Fauzan Al Fauzan -hafizhahullah- replied:
Men wear gold ring their law is not permitted. Because the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wasallam said about gold:
أحل الذهب والحرير لإناث أمتي, وحرم على ذكورها
“Gold and silk are lawful for women, but illegitimate for men” (HR Ahmad 392, 393/4, An Nasa-i 161/8, hadith from Abu Musa Radhiallahu’anhu).
In addition, the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wasallam had met a man wearing a gold ring in his hand. He pulled out the ring and threw it, then said:
يعمد أحدكم إلى جمرة من نار فيضعها في يده
“Someone of you has purposely taken a fire of hell by putting it in his hand” (Narrated by Muslim, 1655/3 of the hadeeth of’Abbas bin Abbas Radhiallahu’anhuma)
Therefore, men are not allowed wearing a gold ring. While the silver ring, or the like metal, though equally precious metal, but they are allowed to use them because the forbidden one is only gold. And men should not wear rings mixed by gold, should not wear glasses, pens, watches that have their gold blends. In essence, men are not allowed to be adorned with absolute gold.
However patching teeth with gold teeth is permitted when needed. Likewise to make false nose from gold if the nose is broken, it is allowed. Wallahu’alam.
