It is a good manner to fulfill your brother’s invitation. Even if you are performing saum (fasting), you still urged to fulfill that invitation.
In a hadith from Abu Hurairah (may Allah blesses him), that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) says,
إذا دعي أحدكم ، فليجب، فإن كان صائما فليصل، وإن كان مفطراً فليطعم
“When any of you is invited to a meal, he should accept the invitation. If he is observing Saum (fasting), he should supplicate for the betterment of the host and if he is not fasting, he should eat” [Saheeh Muslim].
Islam is a religion of love, affection and brotherhood. It is a religion of interdependence, solidarity, cooperation and compassion. It urges everything that achieve these lofty goals and desires the means leading to them [Fatul Mun’im].
