Dutifulness to The Mother

Dutifulness to The Mother

Having good manner to our parents is a noble practice. And doing good to the mother is even more important.

A hadith from Muawiya ibn Haida Al Qushairi (may Allah blesses him), he asked the Prophet (ﷺ) :

“O Allah’s Messenger, to whom should I be kind and dutiful?” He replied, “Your mother.” I asked, “Who comes next?” He replied, “Your mother.” I asked, “Who comes next?” He replied, “Your mother.” I asked, “Who comes next?” He replied, “Your father, then your relatives in order of nearness (of relationship)” [Al-Adab al-Mufrad. Al Albani says that this hadith is hasan].

The Prophet (ﷺ) said about mother three times before mentioning father.

Ibn ‘Abbas (may Allah blesses him) also says:

“I don’t know of a deed closer to Allah, Exalted and Majestic, other than dutifulness to the mother” [Al-Adab al-Mufrad. Al Albani says that this hadith is saheeh].

From here, we also noticed that doing any harms to our mother has greater level of badness. In addition, mother is a woman, who is naturally weaker than man. Giving harm to the weak person also leads to greater sin and badness.

So, let’s do our best to our mother.
