If someone else trusts you in something, keep that trust (amanah). Allah commands us to keep our trust and not betray it.
Allah ﷻ says in the Quran:
يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا لا تَخُونُوا اللَّهَ وَالرَّسُولَ وَتَخُونُوا أَمَانَاتِكُمْ وَأَنْتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ
“O you who have believed, do not betray Allah and the Messenger or betray your trusts while you know [the consequence]” [Al Anfal: 27].
Noble Shaykh Muhammad al-Ameen ash-Shinqeeti (may Allah have mercy on him) says:
“The amanah (trust) includes everything that Allah has entrusted to you and instructed you to take care of. That includes guarding your physical faculties from engaging in anything that is not pleasing to Allah, and guarding anything that has been entrusted to you that has to do with the rights and dues of others” [Adwa’ al-Bayaan, 5/846].
